무더운 여름밤 - 조병화


무더운 여름밤
밤에 익은 애인들이 물가에 모여

길수록 외로워지는
긴 이야기들을 하다간,……밤이 깊어서
장미들이 잠들어 버린 비탈진 길을
돌아들 간다

마침내 먼 하늘의 눈부신 작은 별들은
잊어버린 사람들의 눈
무수한 눈알들처럼 마음에 쏟아지고
나의 애인들은 사랑보다 눈물을 준다

내일이 오면 그날이 오면
우리 서로 이야기 못한 그 많은 말들을
남긴 채
영 돌아들 갈 고운 밤

나의 애인들이여
이별이 자주 오는 곳에 나는 살고
외로움과 슬픔을 받아 주는 곳에 내가 산다

무더운 여름
밤이 줄 줄 쏟아지는 물가에서
이별에 서러운 애인들이 밤을 샌다

별이 지고
별이 뜨고.

HEAVY SUMMER NIGHT


Heavy summer night
When night ripened loves gather at waterside
And tell long stories
More desolate for their length
Till deep in the night they return along
Sloping paths of sleep-bound roses

Till at last eye-dazzling tiny stars in a far corner of the sky
-Eyes of the forgotten-
Pour into my heart like countless eyes-
My loves give me tears rather than love

When tomorrow comes, when that days comes,
Comes that beautiful night of eternal return
With all the things we never got said to each other
Left behind

My loves,
I live where parting keeps returning
I live in the exchange of sorrow and loneliness

Heavy summer
When parting embittered loves keep vigil
Where night pours itself in drops at waterside

Stars rise
Stars fall
